In a climate where I see a lot of cars with paint jobs being destroyed by exposure, my vehicles have no peeling paint, despite never being garaged. I believe it's possible to ruin the sealed surface of factory paint jobs by overwashing/waxing. I actually wash my vehicles every couple of months.
