21st Century Dad’s Dirty Secrets and Checkered Past
July 27th, 2008 . by 21st Century DadI just realized that I exceeded 100 posts to this blog while this one languished in its incomplete state in my Drafts folder. What blogger has the attention span to write 100 facts about themselves in one sitting? I made this list over time, and had forgotten about it.
Doing a “Top 100″ or a “100 things about me” list is pretty common for the 100th post. I’ve already passed 114 posts. Just pretend that 15 of my posts are utter crap and not worth reading.
Okay, there are a few gems in this list, but you’re going to have to click through to read them. I’m not going to blast the front page with 1634 words. Yes, that means you too JoJo. I know you never click on “Read the rest of this entry” when you’re blog-hopping, but this is too good to pass up.

- I never liked Korean food.
- One time, my parents smuggled Burger King into a Korean restaurant and made me eat it under the table.

- In high school, I discovered hair metal. Then I discovered metal metal, like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Iron Maiden.
- My favorite band for the longest time was Led Zeppelin. When I first heard Dream Theater, it was all over. I even had to get a tattoo and named one of my cats after the drummer.
- I used to work at a music store. I hated it. I quit playing guitar while I worked there. Picked it back up a few years later.
- Mary-Chapin Carpenter and Patsy Cline are my favorite female country singers. They won’t make the Maxim Top 100 (or the top 10,000 for that matter), proving that I really like country music and I’m not just in it for the babes.
- I love country music, especially the old stuff.
- I play a mean blues guitar, and thus, love that genre too.

- When I was in 5th grade, I never admitted that I liked Madonna. All the guys said, “if you like Madonna, you’re gay. I listen to Motley Crue.” I was gay because I liked a woman and these guys were manly men because they liked a bunch of men dressed up like women?

Commercial break. Check out Modern Parent. This is a relatively new blog. Give him some traffic love and leave some comments. His kid is super-cute. He’s got a great series on taking better pictures.
- I’ve never purchased a TV in my life, yet I’ve had as many as 5 in my possession at once.

- I have tattoos, all of which are invisible in business attire.
- I joined the Zeta Psi fraternity in college.
- I didn’t graduate from college, but not because I partied. I was burned out on school and felt like I was living someone else’s life.

- I had 2 Swedish girls as roommates once.
Oh wait. You’re reading a blog. You can take a bathroom break or grab another cold one from the fridge and pick up right where you left off. You can do it as often as you want. If you have a laptop, you don’t even have to miss the action. Take it with you into the bathroom and continue reading.

- Reasons I won’t go vegan: cheese, butter, real dairy creamer for my coffee, gelato, a good Philly cheese steak from within the city’s boundaries, Texas BBQ, sushi, the orange chicken at Panda Express,
- I prefer meat without bones. I make an exception for buffalo wings and the occasional plate of baby back ribs.

Very detailed! I feel like I’ve known you my entire life, hehe
I wish I could say that I’ve never broken a bone! I’ve spent years of my life in casts. I probably won’t be able to walk after I’m 60. Great list Elliot!
My dad used to call me Gay Boy for liking The Sound of Music. I cherish the entire soundtrack!
There were quite a few things here that surprised me…… Nice, that you have kept me guessing……
I LOVE Mary Chapin-Carpenter too! I didn’t know a lot of that about you, but I’m glad to know it now! I already asked you what part of MD you lived in, didn’t I? MD and FL being two of the three states (not counting college) that I’ve lived in. Thanks for the fun post, Elliott! And Congrats on going past 100 posts!
i can’t believe it took you 2 years to pop my THE SOUND OF MUSIC cherry! lol - admittedly, i’m not too fond of musicals… they are way too cheesy for my omnivorous taste! (i did enjoy this one though. the exposure to TSOM callbacks in FAMILY GUY helped warm me up, i suppose.)
i vow to make play clothes for twilli from the drapes someday. ;-P
It’s hilarious that you told me, specifically, to click-through LOL. Besides that, it’s SOO surprising that you being Korean-American don’t like Korean food…we’re both Asians with tattoos listening to rock, except you’re metal and i’m punk. (I only “coughed” a little during the country music part
Excuse me but there is a musical called Chess??? What the hell is that about? Plus…we should definitely play Scrabble..I’m pretty good, I like the facebook scrabulous, have you checked it out?
Other great concerts I’ve been to: Guns’n’Roses and Soundgarden, New Year’s Eve 1991, 28th row; Metallica, 5th “layer” of people in the general admission section right by the stage;
>>>Did we go to that show together? College placed my pre-college memories into a San Francisco fog - I remember what i did, but have no idea who I did it with.
And…I’m glad I don’t have a blog. I’m not anxious to do a 100 list that I actually need to admit to. Statutes of limitations be damned.
@Beth - I buy her CDs whenever they come out, even without hearing one single song.
@Jojo - Yes, there is a musical called Chess. It was written by Tim Rice, Bjorn Ulvaeus, and Benny Andersson. You might recognize Benny and Bjorn as the two B’s in ABBA. I waste plenty of time on blogs to mess with Facebook apps.
@Brian - Yup. That was us! Guns’n'Roses and Soundgarden.
